Madi Sato 2010

Madi's new CD, Return to the River available for sale at www.cdbaby.com
These songs are a combination of traditional music from my late father’s homeland of Sendai, Japan and my original creations.  The album moves like a river through the turns and movements of my life, both in America and Japan, from childhood to motherhood. The music was recorded in a meditation temple at the Crestone Mountain Zen Center in Colorado and features voice, koto, shakuhachi, taiko drums, piano, bass and sounds of nature.

"Madi brings to the stage an enigmatic blend of expressions. A fusion of her Japanese roots mixed with her southern upbringing."
   — John Corey, writer

"Her voice is full, with lots of soul, and when she's on stage singing you can tell there is no place she would rather be."
   — Crosswinds Weekly

Madi Sato delivers the music in her heart directly to your soul with an extraordinary voice that is a gift to the ears. Factor in the beauty, physical grace and the sheer flair for the dramatic that she brings to each performance, and it all adds up to a stunning experience.

Half Japanese, half American, Madi Sato is an award-winning singer and songwriter, poet, actor, sound healer and teacher. Named one of New Mexico’s Top 5 Exceptional Performers by the Santa Fean Magazine in 2003, she is the recipient of the 2004 New Mexico Mic Award for “Best R&B Song of the Year” with her original composition, Lady Pearl.

Madi Sato performs an all-original blend of World Music, R&B, Soul, and Japanese influenced poetry and songs. She interweaves sacred music from Japan, Tibet, India, and the Baltic nations of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania with Native American and Japanese rhythms into her own original compositions that draw upon her foundation in the blues, R & B, and jazz. She performs her original music as well as American classics from love songs to the blues.
